How to Teach a Scrapbooking Class

This is nice article by Mrs Renee, a contributor network...

The newest craze nowadays is scrapbooking. Everyone seems to enjoy using their creativity to make a great scrapbook filled with memories. This article will give you a few ideas and suggestions on where to get started in teaching your own scrapbooking class. Of course the first thing that you need to do is find a location for your scrapbooking class and advertise for students. Once you have your first date for scrapbooking class and have informed all your students when class will begin, you may start planning out your lesson.

The first thing you need to do is decide what your first scrapbook theme will be about. For example you could have everyone make a gift scrapbook, or something more along the lines of a keepsake. Or you could leave it open for them to decide what type of memorable book they would like to make. The first day of class does not have to jump right into making their first scrap book. You could use the first day to explain exactly what scrapbook is all about, and what materials they will need for this class.

Once you have decided on how you will begin your first class, you will then need to begin gathering all the materials that you class will need. If you are not providing the materials for your class, then it would be a good idea to make up a list of what your students will need. Since most scrapbooks are comprise do photos and memorable souvenirs, you should inform all of your students to bring some of these items with them to class. Some additional suggestions that you could make for them to bring with them is, ticket stubs, receipts that tell some type of story to name just a few. Inform them to use their imagination, and that just about anything can be put into a scrapbook. You should also let them know where they can purchase their supplies from. Most art supply stores have isles of scrapbook materials that they can purchase (if you will not be providing these items).

When you are ready to begin teaching your class, make sure you take your time and explain things slowly. When most people are already familiar with something they have a tendency to rush through the explanation. The best way to explain to your class how you will begin, is to inform them that scrapbook is just like making a book. Also let them know that their is no wrong way or right way to make a scrapbook. Each person is different so obviously their styles and tastes will be a lot different. If you are teaching a class of young children, then you will want to make sure that each child is giving some type of individual instruction.

This is a hobby that most kids will enjoy if they are taught properly. Keep in mind that teaching children will definitely take a lot more patience, but it is also a lot of fun as well. If you happen o run out of ideas for your classes then try going to a craft store for some additional ideas. Or you can go to your local bookstore and get a book, that is filled with tons of different scrapbooks projects.
